Clerical Sexual Abuse Latest Revelations Implicate Gardai

The Murphy Report was published in 2009, following an investigation into child sexual abuse by priests in the Catholic archdiocese of Dublin.  At the time of its publication, certain material was held back for legal reasons.  The redacted Chapter 19was published in December 2010, and now Chapter 20 has been released and it paints a horrifying picture.  The archbishops of Dublin were not only aware that their priests were raping children but, despite the impression they sought to create in subsequent years, were also fully aware that the activities of those priests were criminal in nature.

bishops murphy report

They failed to report the crimes to our national police force, but perhaps there was no point, since the report accuses that police force of connivance, of stifling complaints and failing to investigate others.  It describes the decision by the Gardai to permit an abuser to leave the country as shocking.  Crucially, it points out that, but for  information uncovered in diocesan files, it would not have been aware of the Garda role in covering up the crimes of child sex abuse.  In other words, our national police force failed to cooperate with the investigation of a monumental crime.  This failure is not something that happened in the distant past.  Within the last decade, senior gardai were conniving to frustrate an official investigation into the activities of sex-abusing clerics and it’s highly likely that many of these people are still in office.

Coming in a week when we learn that a member of our parliament wrote to a bishop before voting on a government bill, this is highly disturbing.   To what extent does this official deference still survive?

Too funny for the Church? Comedy show gets “excommunicated”

Licking a crucifix and pressing some very hot buttons: German satirist Carolin Kebekus

THIS SORT OF THING really shouldn’t happen. Article 5 of the German constitution clearly states that “Freedom of the press and freedom of reporting by means of broadcasts and films shall be guaranteed. There shall be no censorship.” This freedom is absolute – except in cases involving a publicly sanctioned religious group, above all the Catholic Church.

The latest case: This week the German TV broadcaster WDR abruptly cancelled a completed and broadcast-ready satire show starring comedienne Carolin Kebekus. Set to premiere tonight at 8:15, it was to be the popular performer’s first solo show. But now her series has been trashed and she won’t be hired back anytime soon. Why? It turns out that the centerpiece of Kebekus! was going to be an elaborate rapper sequence lampooning the Catholic Church.

The offending musical number starts out with Kebekus dying of boredom at Sunday mass, when suddenly the church door opens and she appears in person, now dressed in a white nun’s habit and wearing golden chains around her neck and waist. During the ensuing rap number, this naughty nun twirls her chains, repeatedly licks a crucifix, flashes an altar, joins other nuns in dancing around a burning bush, and otherwise desecrates revered religious symbols. In other sections, an altar boy raps about how superior he is for being Catholic, and a pudgy gangsta-style rapper (German-Moroccan rap artist MC Rene) dressed in priestly robes expounds on virgins, celibacy, and pedophilia. (“In the church I’m the king,/Everyone kneels when I sing./Skip the bitches, I look away,/Celibacy means I do it my way” etc.).

The guiding theme of the video is the popular hym “Danke dem Herrn” (“Thank -you Lord”), a favorite of Sunday school classes and bible camps, sort of a Central European equivalent of Kumbaya. But Kebekus gives this normally ho-hum tune a different twist:

Thank-you for my golden chains,

Thank-you for my virginity,

Thank-you for letting me wear the same dress everyday.

She and the other nuns deliver a break dance before singing:

Thank-you for my fear of gays,

Thank-you for the condom ban,

Thank-you for threatening hell for every sin I commit.

You can read the entire German song text here.

Hence the rap-song’s title: “Dunk den Herrn.” Yes, that’s really “dunk,” i.e. what you might think of doing to a donut.

WDR explained its decision as follows:

Particularly the scenes with the crucifix could injure viewers’ religious convictions. This was and is not the intention of the “Young TV” editorial group. Nor could it be reconciled with the WDR {code of conduct}, which states clearly in Article 5 that the religious convictions of the population are to be respected.

In other words, there shall be no censorship – until there is.

This sort of censorship is nothing new here – I’ve already written about similar cases in this space before. But those who deplore such satires would do well to reflect on where they come from in the first place, namely from the ban on religious free expression at the expense of basic civil rights.

Let me cut WDR some slack here and admit that the segment is about as blasphemous as you could ever get. Call it Piss Christ on crack. But that’s the whole point of the exercise: Provoking a response. If they’d just let these caricatures go through without comment, the public would no doubt tire of them quickly, and people like me, who don’t even watch TV, would never even have known about this one. As it is, “Dunk den Herrn” is now attracting millions of visitors to Youtube.

You’d think people would learn.

Catholic church split over ordination of women paedophiles

The Catholic church is facing the most significant threat to its unity in generations as progressives call on the Vatican to advance the cause of gender equality and allow women paedophiles to be ordained as Catholic priests.

‘In the 21st century it seems incredible that only male priests are entrusted with the responsibility of abusing the children in their care,’ said pro-women campaigner, Sister Genevieve Loretta. ‘In every other walk of life women have proved themselves capable of performing roles as well as or better than men, so why shouldn’t women be given the chance to exploit a position of authority and defile vulnerable minors? I’m sure it’s what Jesus would have wanted.’

Women Priests to give Catholics the Horn!

Being a Catholic is about having a lot of sex!

If you disagree with this statement consider the fact that so many couples are unable to conceive and many have to try for years to get pregnant, but Catholics have huge families!

The only possible conclusion…they’re at it all the time, catholic parents just can’t wait to get into the sack and make some more catholics, and rightly so as less and less people are going to church these days because it’s really boring and it splits up the day!

More catholics means more money in the collection plate and bingo, that’s the church roof fixed!

However, just because you don’t wear a condom, it doesn’t mean you’re horny all the time and that’s where women priests would be able to help in a way that their male counterparts have never been able to.

The debate about women priests rumbles on but now it seems they have an ace up their sleeve.

Concecrated Lingerie!

Bless my sainted trousers, that’s the answer.

By turning sunday prayer into a protracted burlesque show you would not only get the congregation fired up for an afternoon of wild passion, the net effect would be a doubling of the congregation overnight!

Shit, we’d be there in a flash!

Sex sells, and the good work of The Lord costs money, it’s a no-brainer!

Exponents of this scheme point out that there is no passage in the bible suggesting that scantily clad priestesses are not allowed to spread the word of God.

Those opposed to sexing up the church also point out that ‘Thou shalt not smoke Crack’ is not one of the ten commandments but that doesn’t make it right!

Ask yourself this…if church was sexy, would you go?

Of course you would!

Catholicism to close on Sunday following further revelations of illegal activity

Catholicism has announced that this Sunday will be the last edition of its popular ‘Mass’ following further revelations surrounding child abuse cases in Ireland.

The church had hoped that previous cover-ups had done enough to see it’s reputation remain intact, but is admitting defeat and will close it’s doors for the final time on Sunday.

The closure will see an end to a two-thousand year old institution, which insiders hope will be remembered for it’s few good years rather than the couple of thousand pretty awful ones.

One former Catholic told us, “It’s the worshippers I feel sorry for, many of them had no idea the strange man in a dress was fiddling with kids.”

“You know, maybe the clean break will do the worshippers some good? I hear that the Anglicans are recruiting.”

After controversial figure Father Coulson left the church in 2007, many inside the church felt that the worst was behind them, but the latest revelations have once again left Catholicism facing the mercy of the legal system.

Catholicism to close

In the face of mounting criticism, the decision to close has come from the very top, with Vatican officials expected to arrive in the country shortly to oversee the closure.

Speculation is already rife that Carholicism will merely relaunch under a new name in time for next Sunday, with the domain entirelynewcatholicism.net suspiciously purchased in Rome on Tuesday.

One religious industry watcher told us, “I can’t imagine the Vatican will simply walk away completely, you have to remember that this is a multi billion dollar business empire.”

“You don’t acquire that level of financial success by making poor business decisions.”

“I’m quite sure they’ll rebrand, come back fresh, and this time next year well be asking ‘Catholicism who?’”

Have elderly Irish Woman become to demanding of their men?

Judging from figures recently, released male medical cardholders have cost the taxpayer €20m since 2008, to further their sex life.

The cost of sex boosting is likely to come under scrutiny in the budget.

An anonymous source in the Health department stated that they were trying to set new guidelines before approving Viagra coverage. One wonders what criteria; they will use to set these guidelines. The league of elderly nurses maintained they were available for consultation on this matter.

In a statement issued this morning the Catholic Church declared that ordained members found misusing the drug would face stiff penalties.

The Minister of Health James Reilly believed that the general populace could learn from the banks. When asked to explain further he declined. Now just who is screwing who?

Woman’s rights groups claim that this will be a big let down for the elderly.

Mary McLean a pensioner said as things stand we are really hard up and that this was just another attempt by the Government to deprive the elderly of their rights.
