Earlier this month, while on an nighttime swim with manta rays off the coast of Hawaii, a group of divers were surprised to see a single Bottlenose dolphin approach and linger among them, though it appeared unable to swim normally.
Only after the dolphin continued to circle near around him so insistently did diving instructor Keller Laros begin to realize the animal wasn’t merely being curious — it was actually asking them for help. The dolphin’s movements were restricted because it had become entangled in fishing line and a hook was lodged in its pectoral fin.
Incredibly, the wild dolphin then appears to readily comply with Laros’s efforts to help, positioning its body to make his work easier, seeming to give full trust in the terrestrial stranger.
Thankfully, Laros was able to remove the line and hook from the dolphin, very likely saving the animal’s life.
“I was at the right place at the right time. I am honored to share the footage with all of you.” writes Martina S. Wing, owner of the touring company Ocean Wings Hawaii, who filmed the moving rescue. “Let’s make better decisions for the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. I strive to make a difference, and you can make one, too!”
While it’s always encouraging to hear stories of aquatic creatures saved from ocean debris, especially discarded fishing nets, lines and hooks — for every one heartwarming rescue, there are countless sad endings for marine life.
More than 400,000 people have signed an online petition demanding that Macy’s fire human ocarina Donald Trump from their ad campaign and remove his merchandise from their stores. Signers object to Trump’s obsession with the “racially charged birther conspiracy” and his frequent calls for overthrow of the democratically elected government. I guess they have a point—”terra cotta plutocratic genocidal warlord” doesn’t exactly scream THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS.
“Donald Trump does not reflect the ‘magic of Macy’s,” reads the petition via SignOn.org, the progressive nonprofit online campaign arm of MoveOn.org. “We urge you to sever ties with him. Macy’s says it has a strong obligation to be ‘socially responsible’ and that ‘actions speak louder than words.’ Indeed. It’s time to act.”
…Aside from his controversial birther views-which have long been discredited after Obama authorized his birth state of Hawaii to release his long-form birth certificate-the petition also notes Trump has “used his public platform to deny the reality of climate change.” It also smacks him for sexist behavior and “personally attacking women he disagrees” with.
Additionally, his detractors point out the reality star has “hypocritically complained about jobs being shipped overseas to China, despite the fact that almost his entire clothing line sold at Macy’s is made in China.”
Um, yeah, and by the way? Can the fucking Apprentice get canceled already? Can somebody fire Donald Trump from something? Aren’t there ANY consequences for being literally the worst guy in the country!?!? Pleeeeeeeeease??? [E!]
The investor, who had previously expressed major reservations over Obama’s eligibility of the Presidency by questioning his 1961 birth in Hawaii, took to Twitter shortly after the main TV networks in the United States called the election in Obama’s favour.
“We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty,” Trump insisted. “Our nation is totally divided!
“Let’s fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.
This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy! Our country is now in serious and unprecedented trouble… like never before.
Our nation is a once great nation divided! The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.
The billionaire – who had toyed with running for the Republican nomination, but ultimately ruled himself out and endorsed Mitt Romney’s candidacy before leaving the Republican party altogether- said the Republican-controlled House of Representatives “shouldn’t give anything to Obama unless he terminates Obamacare”.
Trump’s complaints appeared to be related to the running totals in the popular vote count, which had showed Romney has holding a clear lead over Obama despite having lost the election based on the electoral college system.
The running totals carried by TV networks, however, did not include the substantial tallies of votes cast in western states such as California, which had leaned heavily towards Obama and whose 55 electoral college votes could immediately be awarded to the incumbent.
