US to Supply Syrian Rebels with Heavy Weapons

It seems that our corrupt, lying leaders in Washington are at it again. Just moments ago, the Administration said that Syria “Has crossed the Red Line” by using chemical weapons against the opposition. That isn’t what is driving this train.

According to international sources, the opposition is swiftly folding against the Army of Bashir al-Assad and this is unacceptable to the U.S. and its proxy Israel. You can read about the rebel fallback here on OEN.

This is also obfuscating the current news about the unwarranted NSA spying on all American citizens. Obama seems to be losing his credibility with his Progressive base over what they feel are their loss of privacy and 1st Amendment as well as 4th Amendment rights.

Americans are being railroaded into another lose/lose situation in the Middle-east to stop the political hemorrhaging here in America. This is unacceptable and Americans should see this as just what it is. War in order to keep dissent to a minimum is an old trick. People need to look at this for what it really is, something thrown into the mix to keep our eyes off the ball.

Senator John McCain was on CNN recently and was very satisfied that America was now going to send heavy weapons into Syria. We should not feel as pleased. Tensions will be getting even higher in the region and it could erupt into another World War. That would take the American peoples mind off of how badly their government has failed them.

Lord Acton

1834-1902 (Age at death: 68 approx.)

John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, 1st Baron Acton, KCVO, DL (10 January 1834 – 19 June 1902), known as Sir John Dalberg-Acton, 8th Bt from 1837 to 1869 and usually referred to simply as Lord Acton, was an English Catholic historian, politician, and writer. He was the only son of Sir Ferdinand Dalberg-Acton, 7th Baronet[1] and a grandson of the Neapolitan admiral Sir John Acton, 6th Baronet.[2][3] He is famous for his remark, often misquoted: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”..read more

Fundamentalism, Ignorance and Fear for Profit.

Isaac Asimov, wrote, “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

How terribly, awfully true. And some people love it just the way it is. The fundamentalist Christian religion is a great place to find proof. For these folks, religion is an infection that causes delirious behavior, the kind that comes from a very high fever.

Now to be clear that I’m not condemning all religion or all sincere believers. I’m condemning the ignorance that comes from the delirium of those infected with fundamentalism. And I’m sorry. There is no other way to say it. Ignorance!

Ignorance is not stupidity. Ignorance is a choice. All it takes to cure ignorance is a desire to learn something we don’t know. But when we think God told us all we need to know, we have no need to learn anything else.

When you have grown up in an environment that demands obedience and conformity, as much as Christian fundamentalism, you might be suffering RTS, Religious Trauma Syndrome, a process identified by Dr. Marlene Winell.

From the article titled “Religious Trauma Syndrome: How Some Organized Religion Leads to Mental Health Problems” on AlterNet.org by Valerie Tarico, “Dr. Winell is a human development consultant in the San Francisco Area. She is also the daughter of Pentecostal missionaries. This combination has given her work an unusual focus. For the past twenty years she has counseled men and women in recovery from various forms of fundamentalist religion including the Assemblies of God denomination in which she was raised.”

The Christian salvation message is difficult enough to reconcile for sincere adults who remain committed to their religion of origin. But it has even more power to create neurosis in the hands of misguided people whose purpose is to acculturate innocent children.

Think about these teachings from the point of view of a young child who still can’t distinguish fantasy from realty: Being born evil and stained by original sin is just the beginning. Then comes the lifetime of failing to achieve the perfection demanded by an angry and vengeful God. Then the knowledge that Jesus died a bloody, excruciating death because of you. Then believing your natural human thoughts and behaviors are the failings of your weak and sinful character. Finally, knowing “the wages of sin is death” and you can’t stop “sinning.”

As a child, I swallowed this mythology whole. I remember worrying about how bad I was and how much I needed to resist my natural urges to prove myself worthy. I feared I’d never   enjoy the afterlife. Instead I would suffer the fires of hell for eternity; a hell of tortures so well described, I lived in constant fear.

The fear that saturated my youth is still being marketed by fundamentalist Christian’s for big money. Here’s a few examples from Rightwingwatch.org:   Liberty Counsel Continues to Promote the Latest Fabricated Case of Christian Persecution,    Bradlee Dean: Public Schools Evil, Obama Emulating Mao,    Heritage Foundation VP Blamed Boston Bombings on ‘Multiculturalism and Diversity’ in Schools,   Religious Right Panelists: Gay Rights Activists are Christ-Hating Fascists.

Each of the headlines above is accompanied by a photo of the key people who market this fear. It’s ironic. None of them look fearful to me. In fact, they look quite self-satisfied and –rich.

They don’t show any signs of the fear, with which they quite readily infect others. So I’ll take a guess here. These folks are not the ignorant ones. They’re pretty damned smart. The ignorant are the audience of faithful believers who gobble down their venom and ask for more. It’s these people, capable or not of educating themselves out of their ignorance, who pay the bills and keep these purveyors living a comfortable lifestyle.

Eric Hoffer, the American moral and social philosopher said, “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.”

If Christianity was the great cause, fundamentalism is the racket.

Collusion Course: Machinations of the Double-Headed Beast

Would would have thought that oil barons — of all people! — would be involved in dirty back-room dealings to gorge their gobs with even more swill from the trough? From the Guardian:

“The London offices of BP and Shell have been raided by European regulators investigating allegations they have ‘colluded’ to rig oil prices for more than a decade. The European commission said its officers carried out ‘unannounced inspections’ at several oil companies in London, the Netherlands and Norway to investigate claims they may have ‘colluded in reporting distorted prices to a price reporting agency [PRA] to manipulate the published prices for a number of oil and biofuel products … It warned: ‘Even small distortions of assessed prices may have a huge impact on the prices of crude oil, refined oil products and biofuels purchases and sales, potentially harming final consumers.'”

Of course, these manipulations of “self-policing” mechanisms for setting prices are endemic across the economic heights commanded by our most illustrious financial and industrial elites, as Matt Taibbi noted last month. And I’m sure the dastardly deeds of the oil companies in fixing prices will be dealt with just as harshly and thoroughly as the recent Libor scandal was: with a few chump-change fines that put not the slightest crimp in the criminals’ operations nor impeded their ready access to the inner circles (and outer fundraisers) of government power.

So while continuing a fierce vigilance against the relentless encroachments of an unhinged, unrestrained and openly murderous government, let us also recognize that the “free market” — often posited as some kind of purer alternative to the state, a mystic realm where the free play of individual desires and activities combine ineffably to produce the best of all possible worlds — is, and always has been, a rigged game where vicious predators seek tyrannical control, by hook, crook and vast corruption, shackling the “free play of individual desires and activities” in every way possible to squeeze out more unjust advantage for themselves.

Of course, the “state” and the “free market” are simply two halves of the same rough beast. The modern “free market’ is the result of massive, continual and pervasive state intervention on its behalf — that is, on behalf of the vicious predators exercising tyrannical control of economic activity — while the state is in practice little more than a vehicle for elite aggrandizement. (Yes, even in America, even from the very beginning. For more, see this piercing piece by Arthur Silber, in which he points us to the remarkable book by Terry Boulton, Taming Democracy: “The People,” the Founders, and the Troubled Ending of the American Revolution,  which I highly recommend .) If they don’t get you with one head, they’ll get you with the other.

Or as the old song says: “nobody save you now.”
